How 'ABCs of the Lowcountry' Began

I'm not quite sure where the idea came from, I just know that one day I started putting words to paper and the fun part began -- watching the project grow and the story come together. I worked on it periodically in the evenings after work or on the weekends.

Then one day the story was done, but now I had to figure out what to do about getting illustrations. Not being artistic myself, I reached out to local artists, but didn't have much success. In the end, I found a publisher who had illustrators on staff and we worked together to build the pages with colorful images.

It took about a year to get the book ready for print and it was beyond exciting when I got my shipment of copies. I was lucky it was published in November, just in time for the holidays. Family and friends were wonderful supporters and bought many copies to give as gifts.

I enjoyed the process of going from concept to print -- and it was a process. I highly recommend working with a publisher if you can. They make the process so much smoother and keep you on track.

I'd be happy to share more about my experience. Just reach out to me at [email protected].

Happy reading!

P.S. In case you're wondering about the image with the bird that I've used for this blog, that was my original cover art that I changed out just before going to print. I love this cover, but I really liked the cute crabs on the final version.
